A CHESTERFIELD author who wrote a book about a man jailed for murdering TV presenter Jill Dando has added his voice to calls for Home Secretary Theresa May to issue a statement about the progress of the murder investigation.

Scott Lomax, from Brimington, wrote Justice for Jill, based on arguments Barry George, who was originally jailed for life for the murder, was innocent.

Mr George was found guilty of the murder in 2001 but a re-trial was ordered when fresh scientific evidence cast doubt over the conviction.

He was cleared of the killing in 2008 having spent eight years behind bars.

Tuesday marked the second anniversary of the day Mr George regained his freedom.

His barrister Michael Mansfield QC claims police have not followed up leads suggesting Miss Dando's 1999 murder was ordered by Serbian warlord Slobodan Milosevic.

Last year Mr Mansfield published his memoirs which included claims that someone in a Bosnian bar admitted carrying out the killing in revenge for the Nato bombing of a Belgrade TV station during the Balkans war.

Mr Mansfield said: "The whole thing is very unsatisfactory. Somebody in the House of Commons should ask a question about the police investigation for the Home Secretary to answer."

Mr Lomax said: "I am pleased there are growing calls for this investigation to be fully reopened.

"Jill's killer is as much on the loose now as he was 11 years ago. I sincerely hope that a full investigation will take place.

"This was one of the most shocking crimes of the latter part of the twentieth century and one which very much needs a resolution.

"I want justice for Jill just as much as I ever wanted justice for Barry George."

He urged police to review the case adding forensic techniques had moved on since the original investigation.
