A
DERBYSHIRE author is hoping for new leads in the unsolved case of Barbara
Mayo –– who was found raped and murdered near Glapwell
in 1970.
True-crime writer
Scott Lomax, from Chesterfield,
explores three cases in his new book –– Unsolved Murders In And Around Derby ––
which is due to be published in 2009.
The body of 24-year-old Miss Mayo was found in woodland by a Mansfield miner walking in Ault Hucknall, near Glapwell, just
over a mile from Junction 29 of the M1.
She had been raped, beaten about the head and strangled with a length of flex
before being dumped in the woods.
But Scott, who has spent four years researching the book alongside other
projects, believes the publication could reveal new links about Ms Mayo's
death nearly 40 years later.
"I am hoping to raise awareness of this and other cases in the
area," he said.
"It cannot do any harm and will hopefully jog people's memories and
potentially lead to further developments even 38 years later."
Scott has also written books on the Jill Dando killing and the notorious mass
murderer Jeremy Bamber.
