Dando killer awaits his fate

Barry George smiles yesterday as he arrives at court to learn his fate after
an appeal.
But he was told the three judges had reserved their decision.
George, 47, convicted of shooting TV host Jill Dando in 1999, hoped to learn
the outcome yesterday - his mother's birthday.
The appeal court judges, sitting in London, are expected to reach a decision
within days on whether his murder conviction should stand.
George's friend Scott Lomax said: "Barry was a bit agitated as he had
hoped to have the conviction quashed today. It would have been a perfect
present for his mother.
"We felt the appeal went positively and we fully expected the judges to
give him a retrial and a chance to prove his innocence".
The case turns on Government experts who say a speck of firearms residue on
his coat was "neutral" as evidence. The Crown is relying on other
circumstantial evidence.
